Passive UV Irradiation Sensor for Space Application
IMC in Space was a European Space Agency funded project active from December 2021 to November 2022. The project was led professor Mika Lastusaari and it employed one full-time researcher.
The project’s aim was to investigate the suitability of IMC’s synthetic hackmanite for use as a passive UV radiation detector at the International Space Station.
At the project’s end, ESA decided that IMC’s material will fly to the space station in the beginning of the year 2024. The preparations for the flight were scheduled to start in February 2023.
